ADAMS AND WRIGHT

PIERS ADAMS – RECORDERS
DAVID WRIGHT – HARPSICHORD

Adams and Wright form one half of Red Priest, and bring all of the energy and freedom of the super-group into their duo recitals. Here is chamber music for all: no other musicians today bring such an astonishing, larger-than-life range of virtuoso techniques and expressive colours to music of the baroque, and as natural raconteurs, they lead the audience through the unchartered landscape of the era with fascinating insights into the music and instruments – and some spicy anecdotes about the lives of the composers.PA and DW 1

WILD MEN OF THE SEICENTO

A journey through the surreal musical world of the Seicento (17th century), a fascinating, forgotten era when fantasy and invention ruled over form and formality. From the earliest sonatas of the Italian school to the bizarre meanderings of Heinrich Biber this music never ceases to amaze the innocent bystander. Although the violin was the favoured instrument at this time, Adams has followed historical precedents by adapting the music for his arsenal of recorders, creating fabulous new showpieces. Composers include Castello, Fontana, Salaverde, Mealli, Biber, Bull, Van Eyck and Corelli. A must-hear programme for cognoscenti as much as those new to early music.
